Wineroads
July 29th, 2020
With Nexa's Wineroads we leave the Veneto region and head to Friuli-Venezia Giulia, to Gianni and Giorgio Venica's Venica&Venica, a winery that is not only part of the Friulian wine tradition, but has also transformed its history into an innovative concept.
We are deep in the Collio, part of the province of Gorizia and close to the border with Slovenia, a terroir particularly well suited to the production of great white wines. The culture of the territory also characterises the estate's design and architecture. The rooms, the furnishings, the garden, and even the wine cellar all tell their story with style, where past and present, and traditional and contemporary design intertwine.
Our tour is guided by the exceptional Ornella Venica, wife of Gianni Venica, who welcomes us and shows us around the immaculately manicured estate with great congeniality and grace. Ornella's passion for the estate shines through her every word when she speaks of the (first) 90 years of Venica&Venica and the events that have made the winery an international name of excellence.
We can't wait to go down into the cellar to experience first hand the generational passage of the Venica family, enclosed in a highly symbolic element - the doors. At Venica&Venica, doors are a concept, a gateway connecting two realities. The lovingly restored front door of the original farmhouse leads to a new door, a dynamic work of art that, through its simple opening and closing mechanism, stages a rhythmic dance of synchronised gears – a door that does not close but instead invites us to discover a world in which the future has its roots.
Friuli is an intriguing borderland, a crossroads of different cultures that constantly intermingle and reinvent themselves. With its indelible Lombard imprint, the city of Cividale is the perfect example of these combining cultures. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011, today the city has a significant concentration of valuable monuments, such as the Celtic Hypogeum, the Lombard Temple, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the Palazzo dei Provveditori Veneti and much more.
At Venica&Venica innovation is at the service of nature. We love this message and we are proud to promote it with our Wineroads experiences, which will enable you to appreciate the cultural richness of these lands. Next week, we will continue our journey to the Colli Orientali of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, with Castello di Buttrio.
