The Nexa Wineroad Experiences - Castelvecchio

Wineroads

Close your eyes and imagine the vineyards, the scent of nature, the crisp air, a lavish spread out and a glass of wine in the company of friends, surrounded by the incredible scenery of the Karst, the plateau that marks the natural border between Italy and Slovenia. Then open your eyes, point a finger on our Wineroads and prepare to create another unforgettable experience with us.

We are at the Castelvecchio estate, in Sagrado in the province of Gorizia, a land still bearing the dramatic scars of the Great War. Getting to Castelvecchio is like stepping into a timeless tale where history, art, and winemaking are at one in an area that has been the scene of some of the events that changed the destiny of Italy at the beginning of the twentieth Century.

Here we meet the Terraneo family, the winegrowers who, for generations, have tended this estate and have succeeded in drawing from this harsh soil swept by the Bora winds, the ideal conditions for the production of red wines with great character.

Yet there's more: Parco Ungaretti, the park where the great Italian poet wrote the collection Il Porto Sepolto (“The Buried Port”), is ideal for hosting a picnic, relaxing in the shade of age-old oaks. It's now time to sample the Castelvecchio production, first of all the organic wines and the olive oil with its fruity and intense flavours. After lunch, our visit ends at the Villa della Torre Hohenlohe. Built in the late 16th century by the noble family Tasso della Torre (von Thurn-Hofer), it was home to kings and emperors for centuries.

To round off our  Wineroads day trip, we head to Udine, a city steeped in history, which shows the signs of the long Venetian domination in its architecture and numerous squares. The goldsmiths' and artisans' workshops dot the squares with their Venetian charm, the arcades and the historic streets of the city centre. Let's step into a typical osteria and experience the ritual of tajut: a glass of excellent Friulian wine to be enjoyed in companionable conversation, in an elegant and at the same time cosy atmosphere.

With our Wineroads we are happy to take you to Castelvecchio for a unique experience, in the name of Italian tourism and appreciation of the treasures of our territory!
